If your Apple wireless mouse, keyboard, or trackpad isn; t working with your Mac as expected

Follow these steps if your mouse, keyboard, or trackpad isn’t recognized by your Mac.

Make sure that your wireless mouse, keyboard, or trackpad is turned on

The Magic Mouse and Magic Mouse 2 have a slide switch on the bottom of the device. Slide the switch to turn on the device. On the Magic Mouse, the green LED briefly lights up. On the Magic Mouse 2, green coloring is visible beneath the switch.

The Magic Keyboard, Magic Keyboard with Numeric Keypad, and Magic Trackpad 2 have a slide switch on the back edge of the device. Slide the switch to turn on the device (green coloring becomes visible). Earlier Apple Wireless Keyboard models have a power button on the right side of the device. Press the button and you see a green LED on the top of the device, near the button.

When you turn these devices on, they appear as connected in Bluetooth preferences and in the Bluetooth menu in your menu bar. If a device doesn’t appear there, make sure it’s charged or replace it batteries, and make sure it’s been paired with your Mac.

Make sure that your device has been set up to work with your Mac

Make sure that Bluetooth is turned on

Use your Mac notebook’s built-in trackpad or a USB mouse to choose Apple menu  > System Preferences, then click Bluetooth. Make sure that Bluetooth is turned on.

Refer to the table below for more information on determining the Bluetooth status. If the Bluetooth icon doesn’t appear, or if the menu bar status continues to indicate that Bluetooth is off, restart your computer and then try to turn Bluetooth on again.

When this icon flashes, at least one wireless device has a low battery. Click the Bluetooth icon to identify the affected device, then recharge the device or replace its batteries.
Bluetooth is off. Click the Bluetooth icon using a USB mouse or built-in trackpad and select Turn Bluetooth On.
Bluetooth is offline or unavailable. Restart your Mac. If the Bluetooth status doesn’t change, disconnect all USB devices and restart your Mac again.

Make sure that your devices are charged

Magic Mouse 2, Magic Keyboard, Magic Keyboard with Numeric Keypad, and Magic Trackpad 2 have built-in rechargeable batteries. You can charge these devices by connecting them to a Mac or a USB power adapter using a Lightning to USB Cable. For the fastest battery charging performance, be sure your device is switched on when connected to the Lightning to USB Cable.

To check the battery level of these devices, click the Bluetooth icon in your Mac’s menu bar, then select your device by name. If the battery level of any device is low, recharge the device. If the device isn’t showing, make sure the device is turned using the steps outlined above.

Turn the device off and on

If your Apple wireless mouse, keyboard, or trackpad isn’t recognized by your Mac after following the tips above, try turning the wireless device off, waiting a few seconds, and then turning it back on.

USB Device Over Current Status Detected:

Step #2: Change the Mouse USB Port

If you’re using a USB mouse, unplug it from your computer and plug it into another USB port. If you have to unplug something else to make room, do that. Just unplug something that isn’t vital and avoid removing your USB keyboard, although it doesn’t really matter that much.

Move the mouse to a different USB port. If you move the mouse and it works, the USB port is the issue. If the mouse still doesn’t work, the device may be the problem. So, try it on another computer. If it still doesn’t work, replace the mouse.

You can also check the driver and Windows Services before throwing the mouse away.

Механические причины возникновения ошибки USB device over current status detected

Если ни один из перечисленных выше способов не помог справиться с ошибкой USB device over current status detected, вероятно, имеет место механическая неисправность одного из компонентов компьютера. Это могут быть:

  • Материнская плата. Возможно, случилось перенапряжение материнской платы или перегрев ее некоторых компонентов, из-за чего возникли сбои с USB-разъемами;
  • Блок питания. Не исключено, что неправильно работает блок питания, его работу можно проверить на другом компьютере;
  • USB-разъемы на материнской плате. Если проблема связана не с дополнительными подключаемыми USB-разъемами, а с основными, которые идут от материнской платы, придется отдавать ее на диагностику и ремонт.

Adjust Your Keyboard Settings

Certain software settings can cause your keyboard to behave erratically, even if they were intended to be beneficial. For example, if your keyboard’s Repeat Delay setting is too short, pressing a key might type two or more characters. Head to your keyboard’s settings by opening the Start menu, typing «Control Panel,» and searching for Keyboard in the upper-right corner of the Control Panel window.

If, on the other hand, you notice a delay between pressing a key and that character appearing on screen, you may want to adjust the Filter Keys setting. From the Start menu, search for Ease of Access, enter that menu, and click on «Make the keyboard easier to use.» If Filter Keys is turned on, uncheck that box and press OK to see if it helps. (Similarly, if your keyboard is behaving strangely, make sure Sticky Keys is also turned off in this menu.)

Restart your computer

Whenever you’re having PC problems, this is the first thing to try before troubleshooting any further. Restarting the computer is fast, easy, and just might solve the issues you’re experiencing with your keyboard.

The good news is you don’t need a functioning keyboard to restart your laptop. All you have to do is open the Start menu on Windows 10, click Power, and then select the Restart option. In case you’re experiencing problems with your mouse and touchpad as well, press and hold the power button on your PC for a few seconds, after which the device will turn off. Then just turn it back on with the press of a button and see if that solved the problem.

Try updating your drivers

You need a working keyboard to follow these steps. If you cannot get any keyboard to work on your computer, skip this section.

Windows update

Sometimes devices stop functioning because their software is out of date. If your operating system is Microsoft Windows, Windows Update should automatically keep your drivers up-to-date. To run Windows Update manually, follow these steps.

  1. Press the Windows key, type Windows Update, and then press Enter.
  2. Follow the instructions in the window that appears.

Manually installing drivers

If you suspect that Windows update was not able to find your keyboard drivers, visit the manufacturer’s website to download them. Getting keyboard drivers are necessary if you are using a special or programmable keyboard.
